Memorial Day Becomes Memorable Day

I have been doing Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 72 days and have written 125 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 72 days.

Memorial Day is a national holiday in USA for honouring and mourning the military personnel who had died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The holiday is now observed on the last Monday of May, having been observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial start of summer in USA.

Being the last Monday of 2020, yesterday was observed as Memorial Day 2020 in USA. But something special happened yesterday, not just in USA, but worldwide. Not just USA report its lowest daily death count (505) due to Covid-19 since March 29 (497 deaths), but the total new deaths reported worldwide fell to 1,179, the lowest since March 19 (1,094 deaths). An average of 4,273 daily deaths were reported worldwide in the previous week, 4,479 in the previous two weeks, 4,680 in the previous three weeks, and 4,864 in the previous four weeks.

The 1,179 deaths yesterday (Monday) showed a whopping 58.3% decline from the 2,826 deaths reported globally on Sunday. The daily global death count of 2,826 on Sunday was already a huge 32.4% decline from the 4,183 deaths reported worldwide on Saturday. Even Saturday’s death count of 4,183 was a 20.4% lower than Friday’s count of 5,252. So, is this a new trend? Are we going to see fewer and fewer deaths going forward? Watch this space, as I will keep track.
