India 17th Nation with 15000+ Covid19 cases; 20th with 500+ deaths

According to covid19india.org, which uses state bulletins and official Twitter handles to update their numbers 4-6 times a day, India has crossed 15,000 COVID-19 cases. Its website is reporting 15,362 cases and 505 deaths as of 5 minutes ago.

India has become the 17th country in the world with 15,000+ cases (it was 24th to cross 5,000 cases and 22nd to cross 10,000 cases). The rank in terms of number of deaths is 20.

In terms of states, Maharashtra leads with 3,648 cases and 201 deaths, followed by Delhi with 1,707 cases and 42 deaths, Gujarat with 1,376 cases and 53 deaths, Tamil Nadu with 1,372 cases and 15 deaths and Madhya Pradesh with 1,355 cases and 69 deaths.

One state which is bigger than Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh by population (and obviously far bigger than Delhi) seems to be suppressing data, supposedly for political benefits. This has not only been covered extensively by Indian media but now also by international media.

At the compounded daily growth rate (CDGR) India has had in the past 7 days, we are likely to cross 20,000 cases by 22 April and 25,000 cases by 24 April.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government are doing everything they can to prevent the Coronavirus Pandemic from affecting India as much as 25-30 other much worse affected countries (in terms of COVID-positive people as a percentage of population), a fact that has been well recognised by many world leaders several times in the past few weeks, it is a shame that some opposition parties/politicians and their supporters (or those who are not opposition supporters but still hate Modi regardless) continue to make fun of his ideas and initiatives.

One particular madam gave such advice to the PM that even a 12-year-old said was stupid. Her son was so “strategic” in his criticism of the Modi government that he used the word “strategic” as many as 17 times in his 54-minute press conference recently. Another madam is suppressing numbers from her state.

However, it is good to see that most state Chief Ministers are partnering with Modi and the Government of India to help save our lives.
