Brazil becomes 2nd Country with 400,000+ Covid-19 Cases, 6th with 25,000+ Deaths

I have been doing Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 75 days and have written 131 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 75 days.

After China, followed by South Korea, then Italy, then Spain, then USA, Germany, Iran, France, UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Iran, Turkey, Canada (the last 10 countries not necessarily in this order), and then Russia, Brazil emerged as the new hotspot of COVID-19 around the beginning of May.

From being ranked No.10 in the world in number of cases on May 3, it went up to No.9 on May 4, No.8 on May 8, No.7 on May 13, No.6 on May 14, No.5 on May 17, No.4 on May 19, No.3 on May 21, and No.2 on May 24.

As the gap between Brazil and the No.1 ranked USA is over 1.33 million cases, and USA still reporting more daily cases, Brazil is not expected to become No.1 anytime in the foreseeable future.

Brazil has reported an average of 15,340 new Covid-19 new cases per day over the past two weeks. The last week’s average was 17,211 new cases per day. The peak was 21,472 cases on May 20, and the low was 7,938 cases on May 17.

In comparison, USA has reported an average of 22,617 new Covid-19 cases per day over the past two weeks and 22,099 new cases per day over the past week. Russia, which comes after Brazil as No.3 in worldwide rankings in number of cases, has reported an average of 9,293 new Covid-19 cases per day over the past two weeks and 8,914 new cases per day over the past week.

In terms of deaths in Brazil, the last two weeks’ average was 868 per day and the last week’s average was 938 per day. The peak was 1,188 deaths on May 21 and the low was 485 deaths on May 17.

In comparison, USA has reported an average of 1,204 deaths per day over the past two weeks and 1,006 deaths per day over the past week. UK, which comes after USA as No.2 in worldwide rankings in number of deaths, has reported an average of 311 deaths per day over the past two weeks and 244 deaths per day over the past week.

Only USA, UK, Italy, France, and Spain have a higher death count than Brazil, but Brazil is expected to overtake Spain in 3 days, France in 4 days, Italy in 8 days, and UK in 11 days.
