I have been doing Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 72 days and have written 126 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 72 days.
ASIA (excluding Russia), which has about 59.7% of the world population, now accounts for about 17.7% of the world’s total Covid-19 cases and about 8% of global deaths.
In comparison:
AFRICA has about 17.2% of world population, about 2.1% of Covid-19 cases and about 1% of deaths
EUROPE (including Russia) has about 9.6% of world population, about 34.3% of Covid-19 cases and about 48.5% of deaths
CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICA (also referred to as Latin America & the Caribbean) has about 8.4% of world population, about 11.8% of Covid-19 cases and about 9.5% of deaths
NORTH AMERICA has about 4.7% of world population, about 34.1% of Covid-19 cases and about 33% of deaths
OCEANIA (Australia, New Zealand, and neighbouring islands) has about 0.5% of world population, about 0.16% of Covid-19 cases and about 0.035% of deaths.
If we take the ratio of cases:population, North America leads with a ratio of 7.25, followed by Europe at 3.57, Central & South America at 1.41, Oceania at 0.32, Asia at 0.296, and Africa at 0.122.
Within Asia, TURKEY leads with 157,814 cases (about 15.8% of Asia’s total) and 4,369 deaths (about 15.5% of Asia’s total), followed by INDIA with 150,259 cases (15%) and 4,307 deaths (15.3%), IRAN with 139,511 cases (14%) and 7,508 deaths (26.7%), CHINA with 82,992 cases (8.3%) and 4,364 deaths (15.5%), SAUDI ARABIA with 76,726 cases (7.7%) and only 411 deaths (1.5%), PAKISTAN with 57,705 cases (5.8%) and 1,197 deaths (4.3%), and QATAR with 47,207 cases (4.7%) and only 23 deaths (0.082%).
India is most likely to overtake Turkey as the country with most number of Covid-19 cases in Asia by Thursday or Friday.
