I have been doing Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 87 days and have written 141 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 87 days.
MAHARASHTRA, India’s third largest state with a population of more than 123.1 million, now has more COVID-19 cases at 85,975, compared to the world’s largest country, China, which has a population of more than 1439.3 million, but only 83,036 cases. Over one-third of all COVID-19 cases in India are from Maharashtra state alone.
Maharashtra has now crossed 698.4 Cases per Million residents (CPM), compared with India’s average of 186.5 and China’s 57.7.
Amongst the 26 countries which have reported a minimum of 40,000 cases, Qatar has the highest 23,930 CPM (yes, 2.39% of its population), followed by Chile at 6,686, Spain at 6,168, and USA at 6,011. China’s CPM of 57.7 is the lowest (IF YOU BELIEVE IT), followed by India at 186.5, Bangladesh at 399.6, and Pakistan at 448.6. The average of these 26 countries is 1279.6.
But then, like I have written in many of my posts on a regular basis, the number of CPMs is directly related to the tests conducted. Qatar has conducted 89,527 Tests per Million residents (TPM), Chile 35,986, Spain 86,920, USA 62,925, India only 3,384, Bangladesh only 2,418, and Pakistan only 3,099. Testing data for China is not available (SURPRISED?).
Maharashtra’s Fatality Rate (deaths as a percentage of cases) is 3.56% compared with India’s average of 2.8% and China’s 5.58%. The state’s Positivity Rate (positive cases as a percentage of tests conducted) is 15.4%, which is almost three times higher than India’s average of 5.45%.
Five American states, the state of Sao Paulo in Brazil, and the Moscow region of Russia have reported more cases than China.
