INDIA crosses 900,000 (9 lakh) Cases

I have been conducting Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 123 days and have written 193 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 123 days.

India is the 3rd country in the world (after the USA and Brazil) to cross 900,000 (9 lakh) COVID-19 cases.

It was the 11th country to cross 100,000 (1 lakh) cases, 7th to cross 200,000 cases, 4th to cross 300,000, 400,000, 500,000 and 600,000 cases and 3rd to cross 700,000 as well as 800,000 (8 lakh) cases.

It took 109 days for India to cross the first 100,000 (1 lakh) cases, 15 days to cross 200,000 cases, 10 days to cross 300,000 cases, 8 days to cross 400,000 cases, 6 days to cross 500,000 cases, 5 days to cross 600,000 as well as 700,000 cases, and only 4 days to cross 800,000 and now 900,000 (9 lakh) cases.

In the last 14 days, India has recorded 23,591 average daily cases and accounted for 11.8% of total worldwide cases. The previous 14 days’ average was 16,253. In the last 7 days, India has recorded 25,947 average daily cases and accounted for 12.4% of total worldwide cases

The Greater Mumbai Metropolitan Region has reported over 145,000 Covid cases, of which 92,988 are from Mumbai city alone. The National Capital Region (sometimes also referred to as Greater Delhi) has reported over 132,000 cases, of which 112,944 are from Delhi city (state) alone. Greater Chennai has reported over 86,000 cases.

About 63% of cases in India have recovered, which is higher than the global recovery rate of 58.3%. India’s Fatality Rate (percentage of deaths) at 2.64% is much lower than the global Fatality Rate of 4.38%.

India has only tested ~0.85% of its population. The two countries with more cases than India have done far more testing — USA has tested ~12.8% of its population, or ~15 times India’s testing rate; and Brazil has tested ~2.15% of its population, or ~2.5 times India’s testing rate. The UK has tested over 17.65% of its population.

Excluding India, the Top 29 countries in number of cases have tested average ~5.95% of their population, or ~7 times that of India.

Only Pakistan (0.72%), Bangladesh (0.58%), Mexico (0.56%), Indonesia (0.39%) and Egypt (0.14%) have tested lesser percentages of their population than India.

Despite ramping up testing by 29.86% in the last 14 days compared to the previous 14 days, India still needs to ramp us testing even more to catch up with MOST of the rest of the world. Do we really need to compare India with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Indonesia and Egypt?

Are PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan —as well as CMs of states — conscious of the above testing data comparisons?
