Did you know that the newly carved out Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh (shown in picture) constituted 58.11% of the 1,01,790 sq.km. area of the undivided Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) state?

Did you know that the Jammu Region constituted 25.83% of J&K state’s area?

The Kashmir Region comprised just 16.06% of the state’s area. By itself, the Kashmir Valley only comprised 15.67% of the state’s area.

In terms of population, the Kashmir Valley comprised 44.17% of the state’s population in 2011, the Jammu Region 43.99%, Rest of Kashmir 10.83% and Ladakh 2.32%.

The Kashmir Valley had 55.36 lakh people as per the 2011 census, or just 4.57% of the country’s total population. Yet, more than 10% of Indian Army troops and almost 17% of CRPF/BSF/ITBP personnel are stationed there.
