US, Brazil, India, South Africa play role in New World Record of 223,220 Cases

I have been conducting Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 121 days and have written 188 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 121 days.

The world saw a new high of 223,220 Covid-19 cases yesterday, beating the earlier high of 213,778 cases recorded on July 3.

It was also the first time the 7-day Moving Average (7DMA) crossed 200,000 cases per day (see the graph). It was under 125,000 cases per day just a month ago. The last 3 days’ average has been 215,079 cases per day.

In the past several weeks, the highest daily count has been recorded on a Friday. Does this mean we will see another new high today? The wild zig-zags of the blue-coloured line you see on the graph are due to lower cases recorded in most countries on Sundays and Mondays, as a result of lower testing on Saturdays and Sundays.

Just 4 countries — USA, Brazil, India and South Africa — contributed 64.26% of the worldwide cases yesterday.

USA recorded its second highest daily tally of 61,067 cases, which was slightly below its all-time high of 61,848 cases on the previous day (July 8).

Brazil recorded 42,907 cases, but this was not amongst its 5 highest daily totals.

India recorded its highest daily tally of 25,790 cases. The earlier record was 25,571 cases on just the previous day (July 8). I saw some newspapers reporting that India recorded over 26,500 cases yesterday — I don’t know from where they get their data, but I have seen a lot of mis-reporting of Covid data by leading newspapers over the past month.

South Africa recorded its highest daily tally of 13,674 cases, which was 26% higher than its previous record of 10,853 cases on July 04. This African nation is the new hotbed for the Coronavirus pandemic and I am sure we will see a lot of news from there.
