We, the world’s second largest public polling / surveying platform across all social media https://twitter.com/MyVoteToday – ran a Poll on Twitter which asked – “WHICH OF THESE FOUR (INDIAN) STARTUPS HAVE GOT THE HIGHEST FUNDING TO DATE?”
The following four choices were given:
- FLIPKART
- OLA CABS
- PAYTM
- SNAPDEAL
10,680 people responded / voted on the Poll. Almost half (49%) voted for “FLIPKART” which was the right answer. 40% chose “PAYTM” which should have actually ranked fourth. Maybe PAYTM has received more press coverage.
One of India’s first startups and our first “Unicorn”, the Amazon clone FLIPKART has received $7.3 billion (about ₹48,500 crores) of funding till date. The Uber copycat OLA CABS has got less than half that amount – $3.01 billion (about ₹20,000 crores) of funding till date.
SNAPDEAL has received $1.78 billion (about ₹11,800 crores) of funding till date, while PAYTM has got just $1.65 billion (about ₹11,000 crores) of funding till date.
NONE OF THESE FOUR STARTUPS HAS MADE PROFITS SINCE INCEPTION.
