China Military Power

Posted by

As Mamallapuram / Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu says #NaMosteXi for the #ModiXiMeet or #ModiXiSummit between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, it is important for us in India to take a look at how much China has increased its military spending in 9 years between 2009 and 2018 (see image).

As per SIPRI (the world’s foremost authority on world arms sales and purchases), China’s military spending went up by a whopping 83% (average 9.2% per year) between 2009 and 2018, while India’s went up by only 29% (average 3.2% per year) during the same period.

Hopefully, PM Modi will talk about this issue as much as he talks about Pakistan, Kashmir, Terrorism, the Indo-China Border Dispute, and the imbalance in the trade between the two nations, whereby China’s exports to India are 4.65 times higher than our exports to China (see my previous post of today on that subject).
