Majority of Brits, Aussies and Americans Don’t Want their Economies to Reopen

I have been doing Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 46 days and have written 113 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 46 days.

Look at this Statista graphic.

People around the world have very different opinions and feelings about whether their economy should reopen, according to a survey of 28,000 adults in 14 countries by Ipsos between April 16 and 19.

In UK, 70% don’t want their economy to reopen now, and 7% are unsure. In Australia, 61% don’t want their economy to reopen now, and 7% are unsure. In USA, 59% don’t want their economy to reopen now, and 6% are unsure.

Russians are most in favor of restarting their economy. In Russia, 60% want their economy to reopen, and 11% are unsure. China and Italy — two countries which were amongst the earliest to be hit hard by the Coronavirus Pandemic — have a majority of people saying the economy should restart. In China, 58% want their economy to fully reopen (most of it already is), and 3% are unsure. Italians have faced the longest lockdown in Europe to-date, and 53% feel more ready to resume normal life.

India, which has been under a strict lockdown since March 25, eased a few restrictions on April 20 and might ease several more from May 4. Just 1% more than 50% of Indians are in favor of opening up, with 6% unsure.

Germans are still somewhat split on the prospect of the economy starting back up, despite the fact that businesses in the country have slowly started opening. In Germany, 50% want their economy to reopen, and 9% are unsure.
