I have been conducting Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 91 days and have written 148 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 91 days.
A few minutes ago, India reported that it had crossed 293,000 Coronavirus cases, thus overtaking UK (291,409 cases) to reach the No.4 rank worldwide in number of COVID-19 cases. A little earlier in the day, India had crossed Spain (289,360 cases). India is now only behind USA (2.07 million cases), Brazil (775,581 cases) and Russia (502,436 cases).
However, at just 209 Cases per Million residents (CPM), India is way behind USA (6,259), Brazil (3,651), and Russia (3,443). But we must also factor the reality that India has conducted far fewer Tests per Million residents or TPMs (3,780) than USA (68,527), Brazil (50,350), and Russia (95,080).
On May 1, India was No.16 worldwide in number of cases. On May 4, India overtook the Netherlands to reach No.15. On May 7, India overtook Belgium to reach No.14. On May 11, it overtook Peru to reach No.13. On May 12, India overtook Canada to reach No.12. On May 16, it overtook China to reach No.11. On May 25, India overtook Iran to reach No.10. On May 29, it overtook Turkey to reach No.9. On June 1, India overtook Germany and France to reach No.7. On June 5, it overtook Italy to reach the No.6 rank.
On May 31, I had written that it will take 6 days for India to overtake Italy to reach the No.6 rank, and 11 days to overtake both UK and Spain to reach the No.4 rank in the world. All three predictions have come correct. India is not expected to overtake Russia any time soon, at least not in the next 3 weeks.
In the last 10 days, India has added an average of 9,655 cases per day, which is less than only 2 countries — Brazil, which has added 26,034 cases per day; and USA, which has added 21,437 cases per day.
In the last one week (7 days), India has added an average of 10,047 cases per day. Yesterday, India added a record 12,375 cases as well as a record 388 deaths.
