I have been conducting Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 140 days and have written 211 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 140 days.
India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) put out this tweet (featured image) about 2 hours ago.
It says that “the average daily tests (on a rolling week on week basis) have increased from 2.4 lakh in the first week of July to more than 4.68 lakh in the last week of July.”
The actual tests in the first week of July were average 2,35,212 per day, and the average for the last seven days have been 4,45,002. At no point have we hit an average of 4.68 lakh tests on a “rolling week on week basis”.
Another truth that the MoHFW fails to tell us that they have only carried out 8,55,497 tests in the last two days (average 4,27,749 per day), which is 18% lower than the 10,43,554 tests done in the previous two days.
And this has happened just a day after after Prime Minister Modi launched high-throughput COVID-19 testing facilities.
India has so far only conducted 13,172 Tests per Million (TPM). The two countries with more cases than India have done far more testing — USA has done 1,71,191 TPM or ~13 times India’s testing rate; and Brazil has done 59,253 TPM or ~4.7 times India’s testing rate. The UK has done 2,27,926 TPM and Russia 1,88,912 TPM.
Excluding India, the Top 29 countries in terms of number of cases have conducted an average of 70,179 TPM, or ~5.33 times that of India.
Only Philippines, Pakistan, Mexico, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Egypt have tested lesser than India.
Can either PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah or Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan tell us why the MoHFW is telling us half-truths?
