I have been conducting Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 148 days and have written 217 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 148 days.
With its highest daily tally of 62,170 Covid19 cases, India reported the highest count for any country on Thursday (6 July). This is the first time India crossed 60,000 cases in a day. The country’s previous highest tally was 57,704 cases on 31 July.
India’s tally accounted for 22.2% of the 2,80,044 total worldwide cases. In the last seven days, India reported 3,86,059 cases at an average of 55,151 cases per day, which accounted for 21.7% of the total cases worldwide. At this rate, India will cross 5 million (50 lac) cases in just 54 days.
With 58,611 Covid19 cases, USA had the second highest count on Thursday. In the last seven days, USA reported 3,96,193 cases, only 2.6% higher than India. How soon before India’s weekly case count exceeds that of the US?
With 54,801 Covid19 cases, Brazil had the third highest count on Thursday. In the last seven days, Brazil reported 3,03,773 cases, 21.3% lower than India.
India is adding an average of 11,755 more daily cases than Brazil. At this rate, India will overtake Brazil in 76 days and become the country with the second highest case count.
This should be a big cause for worry in the minds of PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan — as well as the CMs of all the states. Do they have a strategy to contain the pandemic?
Despite an alarming increase in cases in every 7-day period, India has opened gyms and yoga studios recently, and is now planning to restart schools. While I agree that life must go on, and repairing the Covid-destroyed economy is as important as containing the spread of the disease, I do hope that our political leaders keep the growing case count on top of their minds as they have breakfast every day!!!
