500,000 (5 lakh) Covid-19 DEATHS

I have been conducting Data Analytics Studies on the Coronavirus Pandemic for 109 days and have written 173 research-based blog posts on COVID-19 in these 109 days.

Early this morning, the world reached the milestone of 500,000 (5 lakh) deaths. These are just the deaths reported by 183 countries and 2 cruise ships as having been attributed to Covid-19. As many reports around the world suggest, the actual number could be much higher due to deaths not being attributed to the pandemic.

The US alone accounts for over 25.5% of the total deaths worldwide. Almost 42% of the deaths are from the top 4 countries in number confirmed cases — USA, Brazil, Russia and India; over two-thirds are from the top 10 countries; almost 91% are from the top 25 countries in number of cases.

About 38% of the deaths are from Europe, about 33.1% from North America, about 16.2% from Central & South America, and about 10.7% from Asia. Africa, which is home to 17.2% of the world’s population, only accounts for 1.9% of Covid deaths so far.

A little under 5% of those infected by Covid-19 have succumbed to the deadly disease. About 57,750 patients are in critical or serious condition.

It took 89 days for the world to reach the first 100,000 (1 lakh) deaths, 15 days to 200,000 deaths, 20 days to 300,000 deaths, 22 days to 400,000 deaths, and now again 22 days to reach 500,000 (5 lakh) deaths. This shows that, while the world has not been able to slow down the spread of the disease (SEE THIS POST), it has certainly succeeding in slowing down the number of deaths being caused by it.
